The HPQFlash utility is used to locally flash the System ROM on PCs through a Windows environment. The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running the Setup Utility by pressing F10 on the target computer during system power on of the computer, and viewing File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file by selecting File/Save to Diskette. See important installation note below in HOW TO USE section. FIXES: - Corrects possible system lockup and possible BIOS integrity problem on systems with 3.06-GHz processors when using Windows-based flash tools, CPQFlash or SSM, when Hyper-Threading is enabled. By default, Hyper-Threading is disabled in F10 Setup. Systems with Hyper-Threading disabled, or processors slower the 3.06-GHz, will not see this issue. HOW TO USE: IMPORTANT NOTE: If the target system is configured with a 3.06-GHz processor, Hyper-Threading must be disabled before updating the BIOS using Windows-based flash tools, HPQFlash or SSM. Otherwise,BIOS data integrity problems can occur. By default, Hyper-Threading is disabled in F10 setup. To disable Hyper-Threading follow these steps: a) At the COMPAQ BIOS startup screen, press F10 when prompted. The prompt will appear in the lower right hand corner of the COMPAQ splash screen. b) Choose your preferred language. c) From the Advanced menu, select Device Options. d) In the Device Options sub-menu, set the Hyper-Threading option to Disable. 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. It is recommended to create a directory called \HPQFlash and copy the SoftPaq to that directory. 2. Refer to the HPQFlash utility documentation (HPQFlash.txt) for further instructions on using the HPQFlash utility to flash the System ROM on your PC.
