TITLE: Presario Desktop Models System ROMpaq Update (686O2 Family ROM) VERSION: 2.14 (08/15/02) DESCRIPTION: This SoftPaq creates a ROMPaq firmware diskette that can be used to locally restore or upgrade the System ROM in the Compaq models with a 686O2 Family ROM. A backup of the current System ROM will be copied onto the ROMPaq diskette during the flash process. The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running the Setup Utility by pressing F10 on the target computer during system power on of the computer, and viewing File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file by selecting File/Save to Diskette. Many properly formatted USB hard drives and flash devices can be booted. - Ensures that the legacy floppy diskette entry associated with the multibay device is not present in Windows when the multibay device is hidden in F10 setup. - BIOS drive lock support is now only available on multibay (removable) hard drives. - Ensures that the BIOS startup time is not impacted by installed, but disabled, multibay devices. - Ensures that the IDE controller's I/O space is free if the controller is disabled. - Upgrades the integrated video BIOS to rev 2592. PREREQUISITES: N/A HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette and place it in your A: drive. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to build the ROMPaq diskette. 4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2. NOTE: ROMPaq disk can be recreated by running QRSTBATCH.BAT 5. Place the newly created diskette in the A: drive of the computer to be upgraded or restored and cycle system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette. 6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the v2.14 Compaq System ROM and flash the firmware. WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE UPGRADE PROCESS!!!
