Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. Two files are downloaded -- with the names listed in the FILE NAME section above. 2. From that drive and directory, type tar -zxvf sp19749.tar.gz to extract the downloaded files. The IMG files will be created in the current directory. 3. After the IMG files are extracted, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 1. 4. Refer to the installation instructions below for how to install the drivers. INSTALLATION INSTUCTIONS: 1. Create the installation diskettes – This will require either a Microsoft Windows 95/98 (with the rawrite utility available) or a UNIX/Linux based machine and a formatted floppy. 1.1. Win 95/98: 1.1.1. Ensure that both RAWRITE and the .img files (dud__Suse_sles.img & script__Suse_sles.img) are located in the same directory. 1.1.2. To create the Driver Update Disk: 1.1.2.1. Type: rawrite 1.1.2.2. You will prompted to enter the name of the boot image file. Enter the file name (dud__Suse_sles.img) and hit 1.1.2.3. You will next be prompted for the destination of the file. Assuming that your floppy drive is A, type A and hit 1.1.2.4. When the process completes, the command prompt will return and the disk creation is complete. Label this disk “DUD_Megaide”. 1.1.3. To create the Script Disk: 1.1.3.1. Type: rawrite 1.1.3.2. You will prompted to enter the name of the boot image file. Enter the file name (script__Suse_sles.img) and hit 1.1.3.3. You will next be prompted for the destination of the file. Assuming that your floppy drive is A, type A and hit 1.1.3.4. When the process completes, the command prompt will return and the disk creation is complete. Label this disk “Script_Megaide”. 1.1.4. Continue with step 2.1. 1.2. UNIX 1.2.1. To create the Driver Update Disk: 1.2.1.1. Use the following command to create the driver update floppy: # dd if=DUD__Suse_SLES.img of=/dev/fd0 1.2.1.2. When the process completes, the command prompt will return and the disk creation is complete. Label this disk “DUD_Megaide”. 1.2.2. To create the Script Disk: 1.2.2.1. Use the following command to create the driver update floppy: # dd if=script__Suse_SLES.img of=/dev/fd0 1.2.2.2. When the process completes, the command prompt will return and the disk creation is complete. Label this disk “Script_MegaIDE”. 1.2.3. Continue with step 2.1. 2. Installing Suse SLES 7 with the ML 330G2 as the primary boot controller: 2.1. Start by erasing the system. This step ensures that you begin the installation process from a known non-configured state. 2.1.1. Boot from the SmartStart CD-ROM. 2.1.2. Select Run System Erase Utility from the Main Menu --> Yes. 2.1.3. Restart the server. 2.2. During POST, invoke the feature and enter the Integrated ATA RAID Configuration Utility. Please refer to the ML 330G2 System Installation Guide for details on configuration of Arrays. Save your changes and exit the Integrated RAID Configuration Utility. The system will reboot. Note: If this step is skipped, then all drives will be defaulted to RAID 0. 2.3. In RBSU, change the boot sequence so that the first boot device is the CDROM and the second boot device is the ATA RAID controller. 2.4. Boot your system using the SuSE SLES CD. 2.5. Choose "Manual Installation" as the mode of installation. 2.5.1. At the bottom of the screen you wil see "boot options". The cursor should already be positioned after "manual". You will need to type one of the following strings: 2.5.1.1. If MegaIDE is the first controler detected by the BIOS: "hda=noprobe hdb=noprobe hdc=noprobe hdd=noprobe" 2.5.1.2. If MegaIDE is the second controler detected by the BIOS: "hde=noprobe hdf=noprobe hdg=noprobe hdh=noprobe" 2.5.2. Press to goto the next screen 2.6. Select your language and keyboard options. 2.7. On the main menu choose "Kernel Modles (hardware drivers)" 2.8. Next choose "Load SCSI Module". You will see "More Modules", choose this option. 2.9. You will be prompted to insert your driver update disk. Insert the floppy "DUD_megaide" that you created in step 1 and press . 2.10. Press the back button and return to the "Main Menu". Choose "Start Installation/System". 2.11. Choose "Start Installation/Update". Choose the source media and complete the partitioning on the sda drive. 2.12. Once partitioning is complete, press CTRL+ALT+F2 and go to a shell prompt. 2.13. Replace the "DDU_MegaIDE" floppy with the "Script_MegaIDE" floppy. 2.14. Type the following commands at the prompt: 2.14.1. mkdir /floppy 2.14.2. mount /dev/fd0 /floppy 2.14.3. cd /floppy 2.14.4. ./update 2.14.5. At this point you will need to select either: 2.14.5.1. <1> for SMP 2.14.5.2. <2> for UP 2.14.5.3. NOTE: For Compaq ML330 series servers supporting the Integrated ATA RAID Controller, be sure to always select the SMP kernel option regardless of how many processors are present (or capable of being present). 2.14.6. NOTE: The DUD created earlier was for the 2.4.x kernel. You will have to select this kernel during installation in order for the installation to complete successfully. 2.15. Proceed with the installation until the "System Boot Configuration" screen appears. Now select "Custom Installation". 2.15.1. Enter the following parameters in the "Kernel Boot Parameters" 2.15.1.1. If MegaIDE is the first controler detected by the BIOS: "hda=noprobe hdb=noprobe hdc=noprobe hdd=noprobe" 2.15.1.2. If MegaIDE is the second controler detected by the BIOS: "hde=noprobe hdf=noprobe hdg=noprobe hdh=noprobe" 2.15.2. Pres to goto the next screen. 2.16. Proceed with the installation instructions on the screen. 3. Installing SuSE SLES with the ML 330G2 as the secondary controller: 3.1. Install SuSE SLES onto primary controller 3.2. During POST, invoke the feature and enter the Integrated ATA RAID Configuration Utility. Please refer to the ML 330G2 System Installation Guide for details on configuration of Arrays. Save your changes and exit the Integrated RAID Configuration Utility. The system will reboot. Note: If this step is skipped, then all drives will be defaulted to RAID 0. 3.3. Continue to boot your system using primary controller. 3.4. Type uname –a to determine kernel type. Note the result. 3.5. Mount the Script Diskette (Script_Megaide) that you created in step 1.0. Change into the floppy directory. 3.6. There will be two directories on the floppy (2.4.7-4smp & 2.4.7-4up). Inside each directory there will be a megaide.o file. Copy the megaide.o file from the appropriate directory into any directory on the hard drive. 3.7. Run insmod megaide.o to load the driver. 3.8. Run lsmod to check that the megaide driver loaded. 3.9. You may then create a file system and mount it. 3.10. Create a new ramdisk if necessary. Copyright 2002, Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.
