A backup of the current System ROM will be copied onto the ROMPaq diskette during the flash process. The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running the Setup Utility by pressing F10 on the target computer during system power on of the computer, and viewing File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file by selecting File/Save to Diskette. ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES: - This is the same System ROM version that was originally included on the Compaq Evo D500 and D300 models with the 815e chipset. It is not an upgrade. It is made available here as a convenience for users who may need to restore it to their computer for any reason. - Adjustments to thermal tables for processors of 1GHz or faster. - Corrects reporting of Celeron 1.2 GHz processors as Pentium III. - Corrects some issues with El Torito code for "Return Boot Catalog" support which were preventing applications from using the BIOS to obtain the catalog of boot images from the CD. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette and place it in your A: drive. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to build the ROMPaq diskette. 4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2. 5. Place the newly created diskette in the A: drive of the computer to be upgraded or restored and cycle system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette. 6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the Compaq System ROM and flash the firmware. 7. To make additional ROMPaq diskettes, run the QRST5 application.
