DESCRIPTION:
This SoftPaq creates a ROMPaq firmware diskette that can be used to locally
restore or upgrade the System ROM in the models below.  A backup of the current
System ROM will be copied onto the ROMPaq diskette during the flash process.
The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running the Setup Utility by
pressing F10 on the target computer during system power on of the computer, and
viewing Main/System Information.

ENHANCEMENTS: 

For 786K8 ROM:
 - Adds code to force certain VANTA/M64 cards to 2X AGP mode.
 - Changes definition of 1MB from 1024*1024 to 1,000,000, and now displays disk
   size in gigabytes and tenths of gigabytes.

For 786K3 ROM:
 - No enhancements in this version.
 The following enhancements were in SP18762 and are also included in this SoftPaq:
   - Added Smart drive error messages.
   - Added support to show F12 Network boot message.
 
FIXES: 

For 786K8 ROM:
 - Redefines hardwired address for expansion ROM detection.  
 - Fixes VooDoo4 PCI video card detection issue.

For 786K3 ROM:
 - No fixes in this version.
 The following fixes were in SP18762 and are also included in this SoftPaq:
   - Made cursor not skip the 2nd century digit in F10 Set Time and Date screen.
   - Fixed automatic audio PC card detection, by updating the counting of PCI slots.
   - Improved system stability in large memory configurations (< 512MB), by adding
     Top Down MTRR support.

HOW TO USE: 

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette and place it in your A: drive.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that
directory.  The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based
on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the
on-screen instructions to build the ROMPaq diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file
downloaded in step 2.  NOTE: ROMPaq disk can be recreated by running QRST5.EXE

5.  Place the newly created diskette in the A: drive of the computer to be
upgraded or restored and cycle system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the appropriate Compaq System ROM and
flash the firmware.

WARNING:  DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE
UPGRADE PROCESS!!!
