DESCRIPTION:
This Softpaq installs Microsoft fixes and Compaq enhancements designed to help 
your system run better.  This is specifically for Windows 98 for the Armada and 
Evo systems listed above.

This does not support System Software Manager (SSM).

ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
- Adds support for the Evo N400c.
- Adds QFE Q273017 to add delay when shutting down. Allows IDE hard drives to 
  flush their caches.
- Adds Silent Mode Support.
- Adds back support for fix icon register. Updates the default.reg file to set 
  the "Max Cached Icons" registry key value to 500 for backwards 
  compatibility.
- Adds Q242937 - WDM Audio Update.
- Adds VPICD.VXD to C:\Windows\Options\Cabs and C:\Windows\system\vmm32 to fix 
  SCI issue.  Also see MS Knowledge Base Article # Q257360.
- Copied WDM audio files, to C:\Windows\Options\cabs.
- Adds check statement for Thai.  If language selected is Thai, then do not run 
  Q265115.
- Adds a line to Win 98 registry file to support 5 batteries.
- Updates the c:\windows\options\cabs folder with the latest network QFE files, 
  VIP.386, NDIS.VXD, & VDHCP.386.
- Deletes previous versions of VIP.386, NDIS.VXD, & VDHCP.386 before copying new 
  versions to the c:\windows\options\cabs directory
- Removes fixicon.reg - no longer needed since setting value to Windows default.
- Removes broken file link to Spanish Time & Date QFE - Already using the fixed 
  file.
- Set Chinese Hong Kong to default to "TW" instead of "CH."
- Adds a Security fix for French only (FrancFix.exe).

HOW TO USE:
1.  1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file downloaded 
is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number 
above.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. Entering 
"Y" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a new directory 
folder in the download directory.  All files are unpacked into this newly 
created directory.

To create the two optional installation diskettes, run MAKEDISK.BAT and follow 
on-screen instructions.

3. After the directory has been created, you may delete the self-extracting 
file downloaded in step 1.

4. To install, run SETUP.EXE.  For example, enter:

   path\SETUP
   where path is the drive and directory created in step 2 - or - a diskette 
drive letter if using the optional installation diskettes Follow the on-screen 
instructions.

5. After the installation is completed, you may delete the directory created in 
step 2 if you wish.
