OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A EFFECTIVE DATE: February 21, 2001 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 5.x SUPERSEDES: N/A DESCRIPTION: This SoftPaq creates a bootable diskette that is used in Presario desktop models identified above in PRODUCTS AFFECTED to upgrade the firmware for the Phillips CDRW drive, model CDD-4801 (HW Rev 03), to Revision C2.0. Enhancements/Fixes: - Improves performance of the CDRW drive by allowing a recording speed of 8-speed. The previous version (1.3) would only record on 2-speed. - Implements a Dynamic Media Table. A self-learning algorithm has been added that allows the drive to check new media by itself and add them to its Dynamic Media Table. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq into a temporary directory on your local drive. 2. Put a blank formatted diskette in the A: drive. 3. Execute the downloaded executable file (SP16782.EXE). 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. It will extract the files onto the diskette as well as into the current directory, and will also make the diskette bootable. 5. With the diskette still in Drive A, restart the computer, allowing it to boot from the diskette. The CDRW firmware will be updated automatically. 6. After the update is completed, remove the diskette, and restart the system again. 7. The temporary directory from step 1 may be deleted. Copyright 2001, Compaq Computer Corporation.
