EFFECTIVE DATE: March 23, 2001 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 5.x SUPERSEDES: SP15577 DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the files needed to install the Compaq Foundation Agents for NetWare(Japanese). Enhancements/Fixes: Fixed a potential security issue in the web-enabled portion of the Compaq Management Agents for NetWare. There is a buffer overflow problem when a large value HTTP request is passed in the Compaq Management Agents. It could result in a modification of the host server's stack. Depending on how the stack was modified, the server could potentially abend. Fixed a potential issue introduced by Compaq SoftPaq SP16777, which was recently posted on the Compaq website, and which could significantly affect the web-enabled Compaq management software (Compaq HTTP server) during startup. In rare occasions when a system has been running for a couple of days, the cookie.dat file generates a cookie with a 0 sequence number. This sequence number can cause the HTTP Server to go through an incorrect code path, which can significantly impact the HTTP Server during startup. Add support Japanese/English to Login applet. This upgrade affects the web component of the affected products for the following versions: Compaq Foundation Agents - NetWare, versions 4.23b to 4.90 HOW TO USE: Instructions on how to use this SoftPAQ to install Agents onto a server ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This file contains the instructions on how to install the Compaq Foundation Agents for NetWare(Japanese) onto a NetWare server. The SoftPAQ process has left a self-extracting executable file (NWFD490B.EXE)and this file (Sp16777.txt) in a subdirectory. The goal will be for the user to run the self-extracting executable on a client machine and install to any target server(s) which require the updated agents. The target server will temporarily contain a subdirectory which will be used to house the files used by the Compaq Management Agent Installation NLM (CPQAGIN.NLM). The agent installation NLM will be run and will copy the files to the proper places and will configure the agents. The final step will be to delete the temporary subdirectory on the target server. The following steps provide more detailed information. Step 1: Run the NWFD490B.EXE file to copy files to the Target Server. Copy this SP16777.TXT and the NWFD490B.EXE files to a client machine which has access to the network which contains the target NetWare server and then map a drive to the server. Then run the NWFD490B.EXE file on that client machine so it installs the necessary files to the target server. Note: When you run the NWFD490B.EXE file, it will contain the default path which should be used to land the files on the server, but you will need to provide the proper drive letter of the target server. Step 2: Run the installation NLM (CPQAGIN.NLM) on the target server. Walk over to the target server and run the Compaq Management Agent Installation NLM in order to install and configure the new Agents. To do this, type: LOAD SYS:\AGENTS\NETWARE\JPN\COMPAQ\CQMGHOST\CPQAGIN and hit Enter. Next select the option to 'Copy New NetWare Agents to SYS:SYSTEM". This will copy the files from the temporary subdirectory to the proper locations. Once the file copies are complete, follow the instructions to configure the agents. Once the installation steps are complete, CPQAGIN will automatically start the agents. Step 3: Verify that the Agents work. Use Compaq Insight Manager to verify that the target server can be seen and that the agents are providing data. Step 4: Delete the temporary subdirectory on the target server. If desired, the temporary directory on the target server which was used to stage the files can be deleted. Go to a client machine and delete the \AGENTS folder from the target server.
