SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A EFFECTIVE DATE: September 22, 2000 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 5.0 SUPERSEDES: SP5572 DESCRIPTION: This program can be used to electronically remove an invalid computer serial number that has been incorrectly stored on a Compaq Deskpro 2000, Deskpro 4000, Deskpro 6000, Deskpro EN, Deskpro EP, or Deskpro EX Series computer. This can occur when the system board is swapped. An example of a possible symptom is that a Deskpro 6000 model is incorrectly identified at boot time as a Deskpro 4000 model. After running SNZERO.EXE, you must enter the correct serial number using the appropriate Compaq Computer Setup utility (F10). HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above. 2. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the files. The number of files to be created and total file size is displayed. You will be given the chance to specify the target directory for the files, or default to the download directory. The following files should be created: SNZERO.EXE SNZERO.DOC 3. After the files have been created, you may delete the self-extracting file downloaded in step 1. 4. To remove the electronic serial number, run SNZERO.EXE from a DOS prompt.
