Introduction
============
This file describes the firmware upgrade of the HP Gigabit Server 
Adapters mentioned in the PRODUCTS AFFECTED section of this
document.

Packaging
=========
The firmware upgrade utility is released in scexe format.  The file is a single
self-extracting executable that unpacks the component, runs it, and cleans
up the component.  This one-step process replaces the rpm format which would 
require three steps to install, execute, then remove.  The file name for
the package is CP008030.scexe.


Performing the Firmware Upgrade
===============================

1. The utility requires the adapter interface to be up.  You can bring up 
   a network adapter interface by using the following command:

        # ifup ethx 
        
        or 

        # ifconfig ethx up

2. The firmware can be upgraded interactively using the following command:

	#./CP008030.scexe 
	
3. Before the upgrade is attempted, a copy of the firmware image is saved.
   If the firmware upgrade fails due to an unrecoverable error, you can
   restore your original firmware interactively using the following command:
   
   	#./CP008030.scexe -p

   Note:  Restoring an image is currently supported on non-multifunction NICs.


4. Check the help menu for more information regarding command line options.

	#./CP008030.scexe -h


Firmware Upgrade Log

The results to the firmware upgrade are in the nicfwupg.log which 
will be written to current working directory.  

	
Configure IPMI: Disable/Enable
==============================

1. The utility requires the adapter interface to be up.  You can bring up 
   a network adapter interface by using the following command:

        # ifup ethx 
        
        or 

        # ifconfig ethx up

2. Verify the configuration status of the network adapter by sending the 
   following command:

	# ./CP008030.scexe -c

3. Configure IPMI by sending the following command:

	# ./CP008030.scexe [ interface ] ipmi [ options ]

          options:
          0 - Disable IPMI
          1 - Enable IPMI

   example:  The following command disables IPMI

	# ./CP008030.scexe eth0 ipmi 0
