SUPERSEDES:  UCD SNMP RPMs for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 (IA-32) including
             ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57.i386.rpm and ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57.src.rpm.

DESCRIPTION:  SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for
              network management. The UCD-SNMP project includes various SNMP tools:
              an extensible agent, an SNMP library, tools for requesting or setting
              information from SNMP agents, tools for generating and handling SNMP
              traps, a version of the netstat command which uses SNMP, and a Tk/Perl
              mib browser. This package contains the snmpd and snmptrapd daemons,
              documentation, etc.


SUPPORTED FEATURES & DEVICES: The following Linux installations are supported
  by this release:
  1. SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 (IA-32) installation.

ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
  1. Added Compaq Management Agents Extension (cmaX).
  2. Added Compaq MIBs.
  3. In /etc/rc.config, set START_SNMPD to "yes".
  4. Fixed a potential SIGSEGV in read_config.c.

HOW TO USE:
1.  Download following RPMs to a directory on your hard drive and change to
    that directory.
           ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.i386.rpm
           ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.src.rpm  (optional)

2.  Only "ucdsnmp" RPM is required by Compaq Mangement Agents for Servers. Use
    following command to install/upgrade:

    #rpm -Uvh ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.i386.rpm
    
3.  After the RPM is installed, you may delete the previously downloaded files.

4.  Refer to the README section in ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.i386.txt for additional
    information.

1.  Introduction

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a protocol used for network
management. The UCD-SNMP project includes various SNMP tools: an extensible
agent, an SNMP library, tools for requesting or setting information from SNMP
agents, tools for generating and handling SNMP traps, a version of the netstat
command which uses SNMP, and a Tk/Perl mib browser.

In order to support Compaq Management Agents for Servers, Compaq repackage the
"ucdsnmp" RPMs, which are based on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 (IA-32)
distribution, to include Compaq Management Agents Extension (cmaX) for
supporting Compaq MIBs.

There are total two RPMs: ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.i386.rpm,
                          ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.src.rpm.

4.  Installation

    4.1 Installing from RPMs

        a. Download following RPMs to a directory on your hard drive and
           change to that directory.
             ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.i386.rpm
             ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.src.rpm  (optional)

        b.  Only "ucdsnmp" RPM is required by Compaq Mangement Agents for Servers.
            Use following command to install/upgrade:

           #rpm -Uvh ucdsnmp-4.2.3-57cmaX.2.i386.rpm

    4.2 Installing from Compaq Management CD version 5.40

        a. Insert Compaq Management CD into CD-ROM drive and log in as "root" user.
        b. Mount Compaq Management CD at directory /cdrom using following command:
           #mount /dev/cdrom
        c. Only "ucdsnmp" binary RPM is required by Compaq Mangement Agents for
           Servers.  Use following command to install/upgrade:
           #rpm -Uvh /cdrom/agents/linux/eng/compaq/ucdsnmp/sles7/snmp.rpm
        d. Un-mount the Compaq Management CD:
           #cd /
           #umount /dev/cdrom
        e. Remove the Compaq Management CD from CD-ROM drive.
