SUPPORTTED KERNELS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.4.21-138 2.4.21-169 CREATING A DRIVER DISKETTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are two methods to create the Installation Diskette: MAKING A DISKETTE UNDER MS-DOS: 1) Save the "megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd.gz" file into a temporary directory. Use WINZIP to extract "megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd" from this file into the same directory. Please ensure that "megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd.gz" is a DOS 8.3 name. 2) Use the "rawrite" utility which is included on the UnitedLinux 1.0 CD #1 in the "dosutil" directory. 3) Label a blank, formatted 3.5-inch diskette as "megaide DUD for UnitedLinux 1.0" Next, insert the diskette in the diskette drive. Then, use the following commands (assuming your DUD is at the location c: and your CD-ROM is drive d:) C:\> d:\dosutils\rawrite Enter disk image source file name: megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd Enter target diskette drive: a: Please insert a formatted diskette into drive A: and press --ENTER-- : Enter MAKING A DISKETTE UNDER A LINUX-LIKE OS: 1) Save the "megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd.gz" file into a temporary directory. Use GUNZIP to extract "megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd" from this file into the same directory 2) To make a diskette under Linux (or any other Linux-like operating system), you must have permission to write to the device representing a 3.5-inch diskette drive (known as /dev/fd0 under Linux) 3) Label a blank, formatted 3.5-inch diskette as "megaide DUD for UnitedLinux 1.0". Next, insert the diskette in the diskette drive, but DO NOT issue the mount command. # dd if=megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k 4) This command creates a diskette containing the image of the input file (if=megaide-2.26j-1.ul10.i386.dd) to an output file (of=/dev/fd0) using the diskette size of 1440k (1.44MB). INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) Start by erasing the system. This step ensures that you begin the installation process from a known unconfigured state. To perform this action, - boot from the SmartStart CD-ROM - Select "Run System Erase Utility" from the Main Menu. And, press "Yes". - Restart the server. 2) During POST, enter the Integrated ATA RAID Configuration Utility. Please refer to the HP ProLiant Server Installation Guide for detailed instructions to configure the ATA RAID. Save your changes and exit the ATA RAID Configuration Utility. Note: If this step is skipped, then all drives will be defaulted to RAID 0. 3) In RBSU, change the boot sequence so that the first boot device is ATA RAID Controller and the second boot device is the CDROM. 4) Boot your system using the UnitedLinux 1.0 SP3 Installation Disk 1. 5) Press the ALT key at the boot screen. When prompted for the driver update diskette, insert the "megaide DUD for UnitedLinux 1.0". 6) After the megaide driver is loaded successfully, continue with the installation of UnitedLinux 1.0 CD. 7) Using /media/cdrom/install.sh to install SP3 after OS installation has completed to finish updating RPMs to the SP3 version.
