DESCRIPTION:    This RPM Package contains a kernel that has Hyper-threading enabled for 8-way systems.


Installing the RPM Package
=============================

1.  Download the k_smp-2.4.19-318.i586.rmp to the system running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 with service pack 2a.

2.  Issue this command from the directory that the file k_smp-2.4.19-318.i586.rpm is located.  
"rpm -ihv --force --nodeps k_smp-2.4.19-318.i586.rpm"

When this has completed, reboot the system.

3.  After the system has completed POST, press the "F9" key to enter "ROM based Setup".  Under "System Options", OS selection should be set to "Linux". Under "Advanced Options", mp table mode should be set to "Auto" and process hyper-threading should be set to "Enable".  Hit the "ESC" key to exit this utility and press "F10" to save settings.

3.  When booting your new kernel, add "acpi=off" to the boot command line after "vga=791".  You boot line should be something like this:

    root=/dev/cciss/c0d0p2 vga=791 acpi=off
