Softpaq number: N/A Part number: N/A Filename: hpasm-7.6.0-111.sles10.x86_64.rpm Title: HP System Health Application and Insight Management Agents for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) Version: 7.6.0-111 Language: English Category: Software - System Management Division: Industry Standard Servers Operating Systems: SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) System Configuration: All shipping configurations Effective Date: ASAP Electronic Distribution Allowed: YES Softpaq Utility Version: N/A Supercedes: N/A Description: This RPM is used to provide server management capabilities for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) installed on supported server systems. Enhancements: Added support for new HP ProLiant Hardware. Prerequisites: Linux libraries and packages dependency files In order for the hpasm to install and work properly, you must install the required libraries or packages of the SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) distribution. hpasm required library or package bash coreutils gawk glibc(>=2.3.3-98.38) grep libgcc-3.3.3-43.28 libstdc++-3.3.3-43.28 ncurses(>=5.4-61.4) net-snmp sed sysvinit Note: All files above are installed automated if you choose the OS default installation. tclx tix Note: The files listed in the section above need to be explicitly selected and installed during or after OS installation Notes: The HP Server Management Application and Agents contain the following drivers and agents: Advanced Server Management application (Health Driver) Integrated Management Log (IML) Viewer Application Foundation Agents Health agent (formerly in the Server Agents package) Standard equipment agent (formerly in the Server Agents package) Server peer agent (formerly in the Server Agents package) Storage agents The Advanced Server Management (health) driver can be recompiled on a non-default (or errata) Linux Kernel. If you would like to install or create the RPM for a non-default kernel, you must also install the kernel sources for your compiled kernel. In addition, the development packages required for rebuilding a kernel need to be present. On HP ProLiant servers with the Integrated Lights-Out 2 management controller, there are three binary modules that are bundled in the hpasm package. These will automatically be selected depending on the HP ProLiant Advanced System Management hardware available: Note: To determine the type of system management hardware installed, check the HP ProLiant server specifications located on the "www.hp.com" web site. If the server specification does not specifically state "Integrated Lights-Out" for remote management, the server is configured with ASM hardware. /opt/compaq/hpasmd/bin/hpasmd The "hpasmd" application will automatically load on HP ProLiant servers that have either the Advanced System Management (ASM) or the legacy Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) hardware. /opt/compaq/hpasmd/bin/hpasmxld The "hpasmxld" application will automatically load on HP ProLiant servers that have Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) management controller and the "hp-OpenIPMI" package is installed. The iLO 2 management controller contains an Intelligent Platform Interface (IPMI) version 2.0 Base Management Controller (BMC) that replaces the OS based software management functionality provided by the legacy "hpasmd" application. The "hpasmxld" application is also dependent on the "hp-OpenIPMI" package. The "hp-OpenIPMI" package is a "GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE" (GPL) high performance enhancement of the IPMI device drivers that ship with standard Linux distributions. The hpasmxld package will be automatically selected by the hpasm initialization scripts (/etc/init.d/hpasm and /opt/compaq/hpasmd/etc/hpasmd) if the hp-OpenIPMI package is installed and the iLO 2 management controller is present. The corresponding hp-OpenIPMI package is available here: HP OpenIPMI Device Driver for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) /opt/compaq/hpasmd/bin/hpasmlited The "hpasmlited" application will automatically load on HP ProLiant servers that have the Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) management controller and the "hp-OpenIPMI" package is NOT installed. The hpasmlited application is designed to work with the standard IPMI device drivers that ship with the Linux distributions. The IPMI device drivers that ship with the Linux distributions are not as efficient as the "hp-OpenIPMI" drivers due to the constant polling method used for detecting system management events. The "hpasmlited" application has the ability to log raw IPMI messages (as does the hp-OpenIPMI package) to the "/var/log/messages" file to assist with debugging IPMI BMC integration issues. Note: The "hpasmxld" application is more efficient than the "hpasmlited" application as a result of leveraging the high performance hp-OpenIPMI package, which includes support for IPMI 2.0 OEM message channels and messages. Installation: Login as the system administrator (root), download the RPM to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. If a previous version of the Health Driver or Insight Management agents has been installed, they must be removed before this package can be installed. Any packages dependent on the Health Driver must also be removed. To check which version of the Health Driver (if any) is on the system, type: rpm –q hpasm The rpm -q command may also be used to check for the existence of dependent packages. There is no need to uninstall packages that are not present on the system. To remove the previous version and any packages dependent on it, type the following, in order: rpm –e hponcfg (if installed) rpm –e cmanic (if installed) rpm –e hprsm rpm –e hpasm NOTE: You should install the net-snmp agents from your OS prior to installing the hpasm package. To install the package, type: rpm -ivh hpasm-< version >.rpm The application and agents will be installed immediately. The NIC Agents must be downloaded and installed separately. To check whether the package is loaded properly, type: /etc/init.d/hpasm status You should see entries for the following: hpasmd – Health Application Status of Foundation Agents (cmafdtn): cmawebd cmathreshd cmahostd cmapeerd cmathreshd cmahostd cmapeerd Status of Server Agents (cmasvr): cmastdeqd cmahealthd cmaperfd cmastdeqd cmahealthd cmaperfd Status of Storage Agents (cmastor): cmaeventd cmaidad cmafcad cmaided cmascsid cmaeventd cmaidad cmafcad cmaided cmascsid (if server has a SCSI controller supported by agents) If you attempt to install the RPM on an unsupported system, you will get an error message. The driver will not be operational and it is advisable to uninstall the driver at your earliest convenience. Running the health driver: Once installed, the health driver will be automatically loaded every time the server boots. Several /proc entries are available when the driver is running. Additional information and help is available by typing: man hpasm Running the agents: The agents require an SNMP stack to be available. If SNMP support is not installed on the system, the agents will not load. The Net-SNMP agent is available on the Linux OS CD. If the agents are not loaded, the health driver will still function normally. Running the IML Viewer Application: The HP ProLiant Integrated Management Log (IML) Viewer is an application that runs in the X-Windows environment. Execute the following command to start the IML Viewer: cpqimlview The HP ProLiant Integrated Management Log Viewer automatically displays the current entries of the Integrated Management Log. Additional information and help is available by typing: man cpqimlview Previous versions of the health driver and agents: Previous versions of the health driver and agents are available on ftp.compaq.com. To ensure the latest technology and bug fixes, HP recommends the use of this package over previous versions of the driver and agents.
