Additional Information ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Modes of Operation The Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare employs two modes of operation: * User interface mode This mode provides a character-based graphical interface to guide the installation of the Compaq Support Paq (CSP) or a subset of components in the CSP. * Command line mode This mode enables non-graphical command line installation of the CSP or individual components. Command line mode may be scripted with an .NCF file. Both modes are invoked from a command line prompt at the Novell NetWare system console. 2. Starting the Utility 2.1 NetWare Loadable Module Name CPQDPLOY.NLM 2.2 Command Line Syntax CPQDPLOY [/H[ELP]|/?] [/N[UI]] [/S[ILENT]] [/F[ORCE]] CSP.XML|COMPONENT.NLM... CPQDPLOY [-H[ELP]|-?] [-N[UI]] [-S[ILENT]] [-F[ORCE]] CSP.XML|COMPONENT.NLM... NOTE: All arguments and information enclosed in brackets are optional. All items enclosed in angle brackets are required. 2.3 Command Line Arguments * Specifies the volume name and path where the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare is located. * CPQDPLOY Launches the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare. * /HELP, -HELP, /H, -H, /?, or -? Displays command line help. * /NUI, -NUI, /N, or -N No user interface; command line mode only. * /SILENT, -SILENT, /S, or -S Suppresses output to the console. * /FORCE, -FORCE, /F, or -F Allows component downgrades. This option applies to all CSPs and components specified on the command line. When this option is used, the behavior of the component installation is affected in one of the following ways: - If the component is already installed and up-to-date, it will reinstall itself, and the installed version number will remain the same. - If a newer version of the component is already installed, the component will install itself and downgrade the component to the older version number. * CSP.XML or COMPONENT.NLM... Specifies the file name of the CSP or component to be installed. Several component file names can be stacked on the command line. CSP file names must end with an .XML extension. Component file names must end with an .NLM extension. 2.4 Command Line Examples * LOAD SYS:\DEPLOY\CPQDPLOY /NUI CP000174.NLM This command uses the native Novell NetWare LOAD command to start the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare. The utility is located in the SYS:\DEPLOY\ directory. The command deploys the CP000174.NLM component onto the server in command line mode. * SYS:\NWCSPS\CPQDPLOY -NUI -SILENT BP000021.XML This command uses Novell NetWare 5.x syntax to start the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare. The utility is located in the SYS:\NWCSPS\ directory. The command deploys the CSP defined by BP000021.XML onto the server in command line mode and suppresses all console feedback. * LOAD SYS:\CDUNW\CPQDPLOY /FORCE BP000030.XML This command uses the native Novell NetWare LOAD command to start the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare with the Force Downgrade flag set to "Yes." The utility is located in the SYS:\CDUNW\ directory. The command deploys the CSP defined by BP000030.XML onto the server in user interface mode and downgrades the components currently installed to the components in the CSP. * SYS:\DEPLOY\CPQDPLOY This command uses Novell NetWare 5.x syntax to start the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare. The utility is located in the SYS:\DEPLOY\ directory. The command starts the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare in user interface mode. If more than one CSP is available for deployment in the directory of the utility, all of the available CSPs are displayed for user selection. 3. User Interface Mode The user interface mode of the Compaq Deployment Utility for Novell NetWare has two interactive screens: * Select Components to Install screen * Component Installation Completion Status screen 3.1 Select Components to Install Screen The Select Components to Install screen displays when the user interface loads. The screen lists all of the components that comprise the CSP. All of the components in the CSP are selected for installation by default. To manually deselect or select components, highlight the component and press the F5 key. To view information about a component, highlight the component and press the Enter key. The line for each component displays: * Old Version Contains the version of the component that is installed. * New Version Contains the version of the component in the CSP. * Component Name Contains the name of the component (for example, Compaq System Management Driver). NOTE: Unless the /FORCE or -FORCE argument was used on the command line, the Force Downgrade flag is set to "No." The Select Components to Install screen uses common Novell NetWare key assignments. The key assignments are: * F2 Changes the Force Downgrade flag to "Yes" for the selected components. * F4 Deselects or selects all components. * F5 Deselects or selects a component. * F8 Displays available key assignments. * F10 Installs the selected components. * Enter Displays information for the highlighted component. * Esc Returns to a previous screen or exits the utility. Press the F10 key to begin the deployment of the selected components. After the deployment process starts, it cannot be interrupted. 3.2 Component Installation Completion Status Screen The Component Installation Completion Status screen displays when the deployment completes, listing the installation status of the components that were selected for deployment. For more complete information about the installation, consult the installation log file. You may view individual component installation details by highlighting the component and pressing the Enter key. The line for each component displays: * Install Status Indicates the installation status of the component. - Installed The installation was successful. - Failed The installation failed. For more details, consult the installation log file. - No Action The component was not required for one of the following reasons: a) The required hardware or software was not present. b) The component was already installed and up to date. - Not Installed The component was not selected for installation on the Select Components to Install screen. * Reboot Indicates whether the component requires a reboot to complete the installation. * Component Name Contains the name of the component (for example, Compaq System Management Driver). The Component Installation Completion Status screen uses common Novell NetWare key assignments. The key assignments are: * F2 Clears the installation log file (only if displayed with F3). * F3 Displays the installation log file. * Enter Displays component installation details for the highlighted component. * Esc Returns to a previous screen or exits the utility. 4. Installation Log File Compaq component installation files generate an installation log file that contains more detailed information about the installation than is displayed by the Component Installation Completion Status screen. The log file is useful in determining why a particular component failed to install properly. Compaq components write to an installation log file that resides at the following location: SYS:\ETC\CPQLOG.LOG To view the installation log file from within the Component Installation Status screen, press the F3 key. To clear the installation log file while it is displayed in the Component Installation Status screen, press the F2 key. The installation log file can also be displayed using any text editor. 5.
