Solved!
mounted c1t1d0s0 to /tempmjc
ran devfsadm -t /tempmjc2/etc/devlink.tab -r /tempmjc2 -v
copied /etc/path_to_install from c2t1d0s0 to /tempmjc/etc/path_to_install
and the damn thing booted the restored from tape OS
I too figured it was something with the device tree then read the man page on
the -t and -r args and that was key.
Thanks for your help.

Hi
Just noticed that it is just slice 6 on the same disk as the root, so my
earlier comments were a bit wide of the mark I think.
Did you check that /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk are all pointing to the same disk
and it is the same as partition 0?
Can only think it is either an issue with the /etc/vfstab or in /dev or
/devices trees.

which have unique WWN number sand the standard cxdxtxsx. Unlike SCSI, each
drive is ref'd separately. From memory delete the /dev/dsk and rdsk ref to the
drive you are having issues with and run devfsadm. There is probably a switch
to do this without having to do the delete the delete, just forget what it is
for now (see man page).......
