[SunHELP] Successful GCC builds with bound checking patch?

Has anyone successfully built GCC with the bounds-checking patch
on Solaris 9, SPARC?  For a nice description, see the following:

I've tried 3.3.4 and 4.0.0, but in each case a different error
stops the build.  I'm currently working with 4.0.2 which is the
latest version for which the patch is currently available.  Can
someone who has gotten this to work let me know the version of
GCC and any tricks that they used?
