[SunHELP] What exactly does a "Link Failure" mean on startup (5.10 - 1/06 x86)

Using a straight CAT5 100 MBps rated premade/molded Ethernet cable
plugged into a Linksys router  which is plugged into my cable modem.

What's weird is that, I can browse, I can ping and traceroute.
/etc/hosts has the right DNS servers from my provider (Cox) /etc/dhcp
has the elxl0.dhc file and everything seems to work great.
