" It's clear that I have to read a book on the korn shell before anything
" else. The man pages are practically useless for learning. I downloaded
" learning the korn shell in 21 days last night and O'Reilly's Learning the
" Korn Shell (CD Bookshelf). If they turn out to be any good, I'll buy one of
" them. Can you recommend any others?
nope. i learned shell programming around '89 when i was at bell labs.
they sent me to the 5-day at&t course when it was brought to my
location.
then i spent two years programming tools - mostly in shell - for my
group. with the whole group and six test systems running off one
1.5mips cpu, i got good at performance tuning.
that was also my first job as a sysadm. and btw, we were developing a
product which became the mainstay of the factory we were attached to,
for most of the '90s.
