Yo,

I believe this is in the 450 docs...the internal drives use a regular pci
controller, but use the internal connectors on the card...so, you can't use
the card externally...why don't you use the scsi controller on the
mainboard?

Hi Elio,

did you done 'touch /reconfigure' before reboot and after settling down
card (or boot -r at PROM prompt after card was installed)?
If you didn't, then systems is not configured to use card.
If you did it, then could be some other H/W problem (like sBUS slot is
broken).

 From the other hand:
if you need console, why don't you use serial port A?
When SPARC systems doesn't have video card (frame buffer), it sends
console output there...

Best regards ;-)

Hi guruz,

I have an E450 and all of its available disk
space is full of 9GB disks, so 20 disks
have been installed in the server.

We also have an Exabyte internal tape drive

{1} ok

I tried to plug an external tape drive into one of
the four SCSI card but the system couldn't recognise
it.
If I change to another card than the probe-scsi-all
shows less than 20 disks.
I assume the problem could be with the SCSI IDs.

Could you help me please on how I can attache the
external tape drive to this system?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Jozsi

External tape systems tend to be Differential SCSI, while the SCSI
cards for the internal drives on a e450 are Single-Ended.

You cannot plug a High-Voltage Differential SCSI device into a
Single-Ended SCSI card.

they don't have to be mounted for ufsdump. i think even if you
specify the mountpoint it'll actually go to the device directly. you
can also specify the device/slice.

single user mode is just to make sure nothing is writing to the disks
while they're being backed. that's also true if the fs is unmounted,
and generally true if the system is quiet, say at 2 a.m.

you can't unmount system fs from a running system [duh!], but they
don't usually change by themselves; manual backups whenever you
install a patch or change a system file... you can unmount user fs in
your cron backup script, then remount them.

After this I rebooted the system and issued the
devfsadm;disks command but nothing has happend.
I still can't see the external disks in format just
the two internal Seagates.

What else should I do to setup the A1000's disks
under Solaris 8?

Thanks in advance!

Hi guruz again,

On one of our E450s I got this error message today;

Does it mean that the internal SCSI controller
dead, or something else?
What can I do now?

Thanks in advance!

The A1000 is driver dependent (which is another bitchy essay).

Did you install the driver set?

It's downloadable from Sun as Raidmanager 6.11 or 6.22 (depending on your
firmware rev - and, no, 6.22 is not backwards compatible with 6.11 - don't
get me started, I hate the A1000.)

Hi,
I am looking for some good tools for Solaris 8 (sparc) that can be used to
debug, sniff, monitor, etc snmp traffic. Does anyone have any
recommendations as to what tools I should use? I gui solution is not
required, however I am setting this up for others who would prefer a gui
interface to work with.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I wanted to create some copies from the
original Solaris 9 CDs.
Nero CD Copy seemd to be the best for
this job.

But now I can't boot the system from any
of the new CDs...

Is there any copy protection on the original
CDs or I just have to use another application
to burn the CDs?

Thanks in advance!

Regads,

John
