It's easier to do it with a Sun box.  I've done it before, but don't
remember off the top of my head how.  I'm pretty sure I just used
format; it's documented as being able to create a Sun disklabel on an
unlabelled disk, iirc.

(I seem to be developing a bad habit lately of forgetting technical
 details that I used to know.  Last tiem it was ndd that I blanked on,
 and I think it cost me a job interview.)
