I assume you can not do any form of physical transfer, correct?
(i.e. disk swap/migration from one box to the other)
Have you considered a direct 100 Mb/ses connection (crossover cable)
instead of sharing a switched network? Depending on lots of
nitty-gritty internal details, your switch may be a limiting factor -
my thought is that all the switched port may be sharing one internal
"bus" to transfer data from one port to another, in effect being more
of a filter than a virtual "switchboard" with infinite coonections
possible...
FInally, are you tarring/untarring on idle or busy boxes?
