Change `DSmailhost.$m' in  /etc/mail/sendmail.cf into something like
DSyoursmartrelayhostname.$m .  Hacking this file is considered ugly btw
(it's a quick-and-dirty fix).  You'd better look at sendmail.mc, and
create .cf from that one.
