The "proper" way to set the default gateway at boot time is...
echo "ip.address">/etc/defaultrouter

Hi Simon,
You almost had it regarding the gateway - the command is route add default
IP.address - you need to put the default in there. You can add this line to
your boot-time config file to make it permanent.
Hope this helps, I had this same problem and searched for ages looking for
the solution.
