You'd be surprised. If the workstation can't contact the NIS server, it
will do all sorts of funky things. In this case, it probably is the
solution. Refer to my previous email where I explain what the
workstation is doing when attempting name resolution. If you
purposfully make an NIS server unavailable to a workstation, you
shouldn't be at all surprised when it shows you its arse.
If you remove a node from the network, all network services (not local
to that node) will be unavailable. I'm still trying to understand what
problem you're trying to solve though. It's not clear what the desired
result is...
