[SunHELP] syslog.conf data?

Hi,

I tried to insert a new line into /etc/syslog.conf, but
it's a data file on our Solaris 8 system...

# file /etc/syslog.conf
/etc/syslog.conf:       data

I don't understand. How could this be a data and not a text file?
What should I do then?
