[SunHELP] Strange rsh problem from 2.8 to AIX, HP-UX

A question appeared on this list in late May 2001
about a problem with rshd on AIX returning:
"rshd: 0826-823 Cannot look up the address for your
host" for apparently valid rsh commands.

There was no followup to the thread back then.  I
wonder if anyone solved the problem.  We are getting
this same error message now, even though networking
and permissions appear to be set up correctly.  

Both hosts can ping each other, rlogin works, telnet
works.  rsh without a command works.  But rsh with a
command returns this message.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
