Why do you think you need a compiler?  Sun provides a package
for NTP.

$ grep /usr/lib/inet/xntpd /var/sadm/install/contents
/usr/lib/inet/xntpd f none 0555 root bin 227452 3018 960481175 SUNWntpu

The package SUNWntpu appears to require a mere 470k.  If the
system is that constrained, I'd consider buying additional or
larger disk drives.
