By X client, I assume you mean X server for a
machine being used as an X terminal. Took me
a while to get this one straight, but the X
server runs on the machine which you use
to interact with the host that the applications
are actually running on. In this case, your
SPARC with Solaris 7 is the host/application
server, and the X server will be running on
your win2k box.
I don't know about ssh compatibility, but
at $25, it's hard to beat Microimages X server
for any Micro$oft platform. It only implements
X11R5, and the only window manager they support
is twm, but I have found adequate for my needs.
It's under the MI/X link at www.microimages.com.
They give you a free trial period.

I am starting a project to run X over ssh to my sparc w/solaris7 on it. I
know this sounds terrible, but what is the best open or freeware client for
running x on a win2k machine. Other than that I am ready to start.
thanks in advance,
David
