We use a Quantum DLT4000 tape drive to perform backups on our Ultra 60. We
have had absolutely no problems until recently.
I input the drive, push the left button 7 times to turn on compression,
etc. Looks fine, no problems so far. I try executing a script someone had
written before me, and it starts out fine. It seems to use ufsdump
successfully on the first partition.
But it gets to about the end of the second partition and it seems to become
problematic(this scenario appears to be consistent). Below is what I can
see as output from the script and ufsdump:
DUMP: Writing 63 Kilobyte records
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Fri Feb 01 19:06:09 2002
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch
DUMP: Dumping /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 (myhost:/) to /dev/rmt/0n.
DUMP: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
DUMP: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
DUMP: Estimated 54800 blocks (26.76MB).
DUMP: Dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: Dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
DUMP: 54682 blocks (26.70MB) on 1 volume at 2911 KB/sec
DUMP: DUMP IS DONE
DUMP: Level 0 dump on Fri Feb 01 19:06:09 2002
DUMP: Writing 63 Kilobyte records
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Fri Feb 01 19:06:21 2002
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch
DUMP: Dumping /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s7 (myhost:/export/home) to /dev/rmt/0n.
DUMP: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
DUMP: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
DUMP: Estimated 15272870 blocks (7457.46MB).
DUMP: Dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: Dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
DUMP: Write error 5363 feet into tape 1
DUMP: NEEDS ATTENTION: Do you want to restart?: ("yes" or "no")
It doesnt seem that 7.5GB should be too much for the tape drive. Or am I
mistaken? Is that maybe the problem I am having? I cant seem to get past
this to make the backups work again.
Anyone know what could be the problem, I would appreciate some advice!
Thanks!
JS
