[SunHELP] Tar command

I have a backup tape, and I am trying to restore this backup tape into a
directory under the opt partition but when I issue this command:
tar xvf /dev/rmt/0 ./newdirectory
It seems that its doing the restore then after long time it came back
without any message but it didn't do anything.
Can you please help me.
