[SunHELP] How do you reset a modem remotely?

Hi Folks,

The application I'm developing uses 'tip' to dial into
a remote system and access an application from that
system. All is well when I exit from the remote
application gracefully. The connection is closed and
the modem is available for the next session.

Now, when I simply close the telnet window or unplug
the LAN cable (the system testers did this!)while the
remote application is running, the modem does not
reset. When I call tip again to connect to the remote
system using the previously used modem device, it
gives an error "Can't synchronize with hayes"

(The modems used are AT&T Paradyne Comsphere 3800
series, which are Hayes compatible. My application
directs tip to use the caller script in the
/etc/uucp/Dialers file for "hayes".)

Doing 'ps -ef' shows that no tip processes are
running. Also, the lock files (that are created by the
UUCP locking mechanism) are released.

I tried using 'cu' to connect. It timed out at the
expect string "OK".

My question is: How do I reset the modem remotely? (I
do not have physical access to the modem hardware
since it resides in a different part of the world!)
I tried modifying the Dialer script by adding some
modem initialization strings, but with no success.

Also, how do I configure the modem so that it resets
automatically in case such an event should occur?

Any lead shall be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Lance.
