Rose,
what are you using to get the PCs to to to the Unix boxes? Samba or PC-NFS?
Or something else?
Both Samba and NFS have facilities for "squashing" users' UIDs and GIDs.
I've had cause to use this with both Samba and NFS and it works nicely.
