All the retaliation in the world won't make them think twice. This is the
nature of fanaticism.
For whatever reason these people have an unshakeable belief that what they
are doing is right and that they will be rewarded in heaven for their
actions. The belief is irrational, it's origins may date from a thousand
years ago but changing it's implacable nature will not be achieved by
randomly killing those perceived to be associated with the actual
perpetrators.
Ultimately all this act has done is increase the misery in the world. It has
achieved nothing.
Sadly, until we evolve to a state where these fanatical mindsets no longer
exist we can expect more actions of this nature in future.

Your right, attacking terrorists with with swift, violent and merciless
retaliation wont stop them but it sure as hell will make them think twice.
The Israeli's have used this methodology very effectively.
American isolationist pacifism in WWII cost our allies tens of thousands of
lives. We have taken the peace loving person approach for years while our
embassy personnel have been held hostage, assassinated, kidnapped tortured
and
hung , multiple embassies bombed, two military barracks bombed, a naval
ship
bombed. Over a 1000 Americans dead. Now there are 5000 American dead on
our
own soil. At what point do you draw the line Bob? When your afraid to go
to
a baseball game, visit the Capitol in Washington, put your daughter on an
airplane or maybe just going to the grocery store?
