[SunHELP] Tape problem

Perhaps it is /dev/rmt/1?   Try the following:
mt -f /dev/rmt/1 rewind
Also you might do a
ls  /dev/rmt
to see if it is another number.   This will happen if you add and remove 
tape drives constantly, or have several SCSI controllers.
If this fails, have you ever been able to access the tape drive?   If you 
haven't run the following:
drvconfig
tapes
devlinks
