MySQL works fine on Suns.  I had a oldish version running a web-based system
(PHP & Apache) I developed for my ex-employer on Solaris 2.6 and it's still
running without being tweaked a year on :-)

Not used MySQL on any Sun box, but have had no problems with it under Linux.

I'd say stay with the stable releases and not the betas and you should be
fine.
