I have a home LAN consisting of 3 machines connected to a 5 port switch: =
2 pc's that multiboot solaris 7, redhat linux 5.2, and nt 4 and a =
sparcserver 20 running solaris 8. I just installed the @home cable =
internet service to one of the pc's removed from this lan. My plans are =
to use the sparcserver 20 as a firewall including the NAT function. I =
first planned on connecting the cable modem directly to the sparcserver =
20, because I was not sure if it would be secure to connect the modem =
directly to the switch. I would prefer to connect to the switch because =
the cable run would be easier. Could anyone tell me if the modem to =
switch connection is possible and any security differences between this =
connection and the modem to sparc 20 connection? My concern is that =
the 2 pc's could learn internet routes without using the sparcserver 20 =
as the gateway. thank you.
