You can use NIS netgroups.
Define various categories of users in the netgroup map on the NIS master.
Then on each particular host, set nsswitch.conf to "compat" mode and add any
desired netgroups to /etc/passwd on that host using the + at netgroup
or - at netgroup syntax.
"man netgroup" for more details.

What is the best method to restrict access to a Solaris system for a
group of users. I want some users to have access to some systems via
telnet and rlogin but not others. The systems all use NIS and a mix of
Solaris 2.5.1 and solaris 7.
