Hi,

Just check the GBIC Module whether they are made of IBM make or of Vixel
make.I had faced the similar problem with the vixel make of the GBIC module
where I used to repeatedly get the link down error. If it is vixel make
replace it with the IBM make module.

Try to install it as root with this command
>setup /n (for network installation)

when you login as user run the setup again without /n, in directory where
you install it in superuser mode. Just choose user install, it takes only
1-2Meg user space. Install it in ~/staroffice directory. Then you can run it
from the staroffice script within that directory. Hope this help.

Hello group,

I'm trying to install Star Office 5.2 on a Sun Ultra II running Solaris 2.6
- I bought the CD at the store.

I installed as root. The install went OK. I am able to run Star Office 5.2
as root - runs fine. But - when I log in as a user, it won't work. I get
the following error message:

-----------------8<-----------------------------------------------
/appl/Star_Office_5.2/program/sorev: No such file or directory
Please install the patch 'Shared library patch for C++ (Version 5)' or
contact your system administrator
-----------------8<-----------------------------------------------

"/appl/Star_Office_5.2" is where I installed the software. The "program"
directory exists. The "sorev" file exists. As root, I changed all file
ownerships to my userid, and chmoded the "sorev" file to 777 (because I JUST
WANT IT TO RUN!).

The patch mentioned in the error message is 105591-07. I have 105591-09
installed on my system. So, even when I try to install 105591-07, I get the
following (in /var/sadm/patch/105591-07/log):

-----------------8<-----------------------------------------------
This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and
version of a package which is already installed. This installation
will attempt to overwrite this package.

PaTcH_MsG 1 Patch number 105591-07 is superceded by the already applied
105591-09.
Dryrun complete.
No changes were made to the system.

HELP! Any ideas?

I have a Sun UltraSPARC IIi (300 MHz) that last week did not boot and
gave these two warnings at boot time:

and
WARNING: time-of-day chip unresponsive; dead batteries?

I opened the box to find the batteries I expected to replace and there
were
none that I could find (or recognize). The CPU covers a small portion
of the main board so I suppose it (they) could be under that.

Can someone explain these WARNINGS and tell me where to find the
batteries?

Also today I was able to boot the machine. It only gave me the
"time-of-day"
chip WARNING at boot time. When the machine came up the system time was

Hi,

what kind of transferrate/hitcount would an IPC or an IPX be able to
sustain while serving as a webserver? It would be for serving a picture
archive site (no, not an xxx archive).
Both would be fully loaded with RAM of course.

Cheers,

Maarten

If it is similar to Sparcstations, the NVRAM chip with built in 10 year
battery has reached the end of its life - see faq on NVRAM. Don't panic if
this IS the case - they are readily available, cheap and simple to replace.

If you are doing no server side processing whatsoever and serving up only
large static data files, even a sun4c class system will easily saturate a
T1 line. Ideally you will top out at disk speed, usually on the same
order as the built in ethernet (10Mbps).

If your files are very small or if you are doing any kind of server side
computation per request, a slow system will bog down (due to I/O
bottlenecks in the first case and CPU in the latter). For straight
serving of 50KB and up JPEGs you will not have this problem.

This all presumes that the archive is organized sensibly (no directories
with 10000 files in them, etc) and your webserver is configured
efficiently. A caching front end webserver, even on the same system, can
offer performance gains in some cases.

Go to the command line and do an "ls -a /cdrom". That would show you
anything hidden. Perhaps your volmgmt is acting up or maybe you have
automounting disabled somehow. Just some thoughts off the top of my head.
Hope it helps.

I bet patch 106541-14 was installed...

It breaks /usr/sbin/rmmount

If you've got a non-patched system, grab the binary from the working
machine a copy it to the broke machine.

I can't believe that Sun hasn't fixed this patch. There have been a number
of people on this list that have been bit by this, myself included.

| mounted ( can seen using df -k command).

With Sun/EMC installations, it is common to home more than one fiber
channel or scsi link between the host and the EMC array. fcaw0 may be
down, but there may perhaps be another link that keeping the link going
(and that is why the EMV volume is still working).

Check to see if EMC's PowerPath software is installed on this person's
server. It should be installed under /opt/EMCpower. Run
'/opt/EMCpower/bin/powermt display'

If PowerPath is installed, and there are multiple links between the host
and the EMC array, you will se their statuses with that command.

At any rate, if the card is complaining about the link being down, try
reseating the connectors on the cable, inspect the cable for damage, or
replace it.

Subject: [SunHELP] Problems using ufsdump remotely on solaris
Reply-To: sunhelp at sunhelp.org

Hi ,
I use ufsdump for backing up a remote host to the tape host (both machines
solaris 7 , Dat HP C1537A 12/24 GB) and
i have a strange problem. The tape gets filled up at about 6.5 GB . When i
do a local backup (on the tape host) the size of data on tape approaches 19
GB. In both cases i use the compression driver /dev/rmt/0c. I suppose
something is going on with /sbin/rmt which is called by remote ufsdump.
Any ideas ?

Many thanks and sorry for my English.

Stratos

106541-15 is out, since yesterday.

Even if it's just a small fix to an obviously broken patch, Sun will still
put patches through their usual patch testing processes before release,
but release the fix to customers who are adversely affected by it...
