this was backed up by the guy saying about the ES40 trouncing on the E6500
(no! say it isn't true!!) but i'm going to work under the assumption that
if the company that wrote the software he uses can't be urged to make it more
efficient they probably don't have an alpha port either, so working with that:

if you are under a time contraint, Sun has this bad habit of announcing stuff
WAY before they are ready to ship serious quantities of it. so, if the machine
you want doesn't come available in time, consider an E3500 or E4500 with 8 CPUs
or so, it's gonna be pricey, but i doubt a 4-way UltraSPARC-III machine is
gonna be cheap either.  if you can't get faster CPUs, get more CPUs.
