[SunHELP] gcc errors

I'm having trouble compiling things on my U5 that I just reinstalled.
Here is an error while configuring vim 5.8:

./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.

I do have gcc installed and it is before "cc" in my path statement. I
had this working before I reinstalled the box but I can't recall what
the fix was. I searched the recent archives for gcc problems and didn't
see anything relevant.
