I've had some experience of Legato Networker, (or whatever they're calling this
now), it's not bad. I'm now using Tivoli Storage Manager here, this is very
good,
but quite horrifically expensive potentially. I hear some good reports about
Veritas
Netbackup as well. These are all 'big iron' solutions.

On the cheaper side have a look at "amanda" or Arkeia (www.arkeia.com). I like
the
look of Arkeia since if all you want to do is test it on a server plus two
clients, (all got
to be Linux), then the license is free. The 'net a buzzing with amanda users
though.

One thing that occurs to me is that if your tar-chives are good enough, why not
just
get the 'server' to pull these from the clients using a quick and dirty
cron-able script?
All your boxes are Unix's so a solution based on rsh/ssh/etc should be
relatively
easy to implement. (and cheap too!)

Bob Cross.
