[SunHELP] Gnome Terminal

Another beginner question...
I am using the Gnome Desktop ver 1.4 on Sol 5.8 with
the Korn being the default shell. For some reason, in
the Gnome Terminal the \ character is not intepreted
correctly.
I have checked the documentation that came alongwith
the install but could not find it.
Anyone have any experience with Gnome on Solaris..
