Hi all,
I've had a persistent problem of the following message being broadcast to my
console, and I can't figure out why it is happening.
Jan 12 16:39:02 mountaineer ip: WARNING: IP: Hardware address
'08:00:20:f0:f2:1f' trying to be our address 192.168.001.057!
Jan 12 16:39:02 mountaineer last message repeated 1 time
I did a web search and all the solutions that I found claimed that a windows box
on the same network set to use the same ip was the culprit, but
'08:00:20:f0:f2:1f' is the mac address of this machine! I do have a SunPCi card
but I don't belive that it is related since this happens when the sunpci
software is not even running. Just to be certain it wasn't a conflict with
another machine, I changed the ip to one that I knew wasn't in use and the
message still continued (with the new ip of course). Anyone have an idea what
sort of gremlin might be behind this? A few other tidbits:
this machine is an ultra 5 set up for static ip (no dhcp), a linux box is
running dns and there is no NIS service. all other network services are working
correctly.
TiA,
-brian
