Many thanks - but Dave Garten's tip to check out http://docs.sun.com/ gave me the answer - nvramrc. It wasn't the simple new command mode stuff I needed, but the Forth commands used to set aliases automatically which I was stumbling on. Thanks anyway..... N!k
