Tim,
Sun VARs can sell other equipment than Sun equipment. My company sells
Sun stuff and stuff from 2 of Sun's competitors.
In all likelihood,
1. DMS cannot meet Sun's requirements for a VAR.
2. DMS is selling distressed Sun equipment (like DotCom stuff).
You can purhcase service contracts on the Sun equipment if it "passes"
an inspection by a Sun FE whether or not you purchased the equipment
from Sun/Sun VAR.
How did you verify that the equipment is new and genuine. Did DMS give
you the serial numbers? (If you have the serial numbers you can call
Sun and find out who the saleman was and she can give you the
information on the Sun box.)
If you statement that "They claim that this is so they are not required
to sell only Sun components." is accurate, I would want verifiable proof
of this claim.
Hope this helps,
HM
