[SunHELP] memory woes !

Dennis,

It appears that you have a bad DIMM (or possibly several).

The error appears to come from the DIMM in the DIMM slot with the label
(printed on the system board) "U1804". This DIMM slot is one of four
slots that make the 2nd bank.

Step 1 -- If you have 2 banks filled with DIMMs, swap the DIMMs in the
second bank with the DIMMs in the other bank. Reboot and check your
dianostics. If the error now comes from the other bank, the DIMMs are
suspect; if the error stays with the U1804 DIMM slot, the DIMM slot (or
slots) is/are bad and you will need a new systemboard.

Step 2 --If the error message stays with the DIMM (and goes to the other
bank. Try replacing the DIMMs one at a time. It is not uncommon for
there to be more than one bad DIMM or for the bad DIMM be one other than
indicated in the error message.

The previous 2 steps are the Sun approved method of identifying the
problem. The quick method is to replace the DIMM in the U1804 slot and
see if that takes care of the problem.

A bad DIMM can cause all sorts of problems. Running slower is one of
them.

Hope this helps,

MH
