[SunHELP] boot es450 disk in a es250

If that doesn't do it, then you might need a new path_to_inst file. One is generated if you can boot the 250 into single user from a cdrom. Mount the 450's drive, backup the old path_to_inst file, and then copy from /tmp/root/etc/path_to_inst.

I had a similar problem booting when I moved a boot drive from an Ultra 1 to an Ultra 2 earlier this week.

Boot the machine again from the es450 disk,
enter the maintenance mode,
remount the root file system in read/write mode "mount -o remount
/"
drvconfig
disks
init 6

That should take care of your problem.

Thanks
Ashraf

This might sound a bit crazy but we are trying to boot a SUN es250 using a
removable drive from a SUN es450. (this is all under Solaris 8)

The platforms have similiarshardware installed such as processor and video
card etc.

So..
1) I boot the es250 off an internal drive and mount the es450 disk in an
external drive chassis that we have. I run
devfsadm -v -r /mnt.
Before running devfsadm the es450 disk was a perfectly usable disk that I
can boot the es450 off of.

2) I modify the vfstab, hostname, and nodename apropriately.

3) shutdown and try to boot the es250 from the es450 disk:
ok boot /pci at 1f,4000/scsi at 3,1/disk at 2,0
Notes: The disk is in an external enclosure as target 2. (probe-scsi-all
sees the disk fine etc.)

Error messages:
/dev/dsk/c1t2d0s1 - No such device or address
Can't open /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0s0

Then it allows me to enter root for system maintenance. The disk is mounted
readonly (i assume) since i can browse around but df shows nothing.

I can boot the es250 off the internal drive and mount the offending disk
under /mnt and browse all the dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk and /devices and it
looks like its all there. c1t2d0s0 and s1 are there !!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!
