Is it also possible that the NT machine is using netbios, and the unix
machine is using DNS, and he's trying to ping the host names of each machine
(without qualification) based on the hostnames he gave them? Netbios != DNS
and vice versa. A unix host will never ping a netbios name, over netbios,
without an SMB client.
