[Sunhelp] packages and backward compatability

Hi,
Depends on the construction of the package. If you create it such that it is
self-contained
(statically linked) and has no dependence on system libraries then it should
be ok. If however it
calls o/s libraries which may be specific to a given revision of Solaris you
might see problems.
Also any dependence on device drivers will usually mean the package will be
version specific.
Cheers
Joe

Subject: [Sunhelp] packages and backward compatability
Hi
Can anyone tell me if Solaris 8 has full backwards compatabilty on Solaris 7
if i made a package on Solaris 8, would that package work the same on
Solaris 7, or do you have to make the package on the same os as the package
is made for? (which would seem like a bloody stupid design fault!)
cheers
